It is a bit sad when there are more traders than customers… ☹
I visited the Warrnambool Gem Club Gem Show on day 2 this weekend. Those of you that know me well, know that I like to get to a show on day 1 wherever possible. This time it was not possible as I took my two granddaughters to see the live stage show in Melbourne of the 78-Story Treehouse, one of a series of books by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton, and a part of their Xmas present from us.
So day 2 it was. The stand out for me was the small number of attendees. As you can see in the photo below, there were (almost) literally more traders than customers. This was about 11.30ish, about an hour and a half in.
From talking to some of the traders, it seemed that day 1 was really only busy between about 11.30 and 2.30.
This show should be buzzing. First show for the year. Lots of holidaymakers in Warrnambool. Great temperature, the forecast top being only 22 degrees C. Perfect in this venue. Some years, it can be over 40!
Sure, it is a long way from Melbourne, but it should have busier than this. I hope that the club and the traders are not too upset by the turnout.
I would say that the old real estate adage of "location location" is the reason and as fuel costs soar and accommodation prices are high!Only the dedicated are enticed.
