Well, yes, usually that is the case. But like most minerals, there can be a range of tones, if not colours.
When you look down on the tops of the sprays on this specimen, the mineral looks brown. But when you see a cross-section, you can see a range of colours, from very pale grey at the base to yellowish through green to brown. It has been suggested as cerium-bearing, possibly a mixture with allanite.
