Back in January, in Mineral Matters #200, I posted about micromount boxes.
Since then, I tried to establish a relationship with a Chinese supplier of boxes, but that didn’t work out. The quality of the samples that I got were fine, but the person that I was communicating with kept changing the rules, and I decided to cut my losses and move on.
I gave it a rest for a few weeks, then found another manufacturer, also in China. This one not only had a range of boxes, but was also a pleasure to deal with. I ended up ordering a batch and had them shipped by sea. I didn’t need them straight away, and I was able to save a reasonable amount on shipping costs.
They were shipped on the 15th April, and arrived here on the 3rd June, so about 6 or 7 weeks. I had ordered 1,000 so, even though they are small boxes, the whole package was quite a big one. I was impressed with the care that they had taken as in the carton, there were 20 smaller boxes, each containing 50 micro boxes.
These are the same dimensions and style as the Kranz boxes (26x26x26mm external dimensions, and the closest to the Australian ones that I had been using. Priced at US$0.29 each, plus shipping). I paid quite a bit less.
I will get in touch directly with those people that supported me in trying to get a reliable supplier.
I have already made use of one 😁
