Federico Bärlocher is an internationally well-known gemmologist who has a passion for gems and minerals, who travels widely to various gem locations, and has a great deal of expertise in dealing with Mogok gemstones in particular.
Federico has produced a film about Mogok and its rubies. Entitled “Mogok: The Legendary Valley of Rubies and the King of Mogok Crystal”, it is a fascinating film showcasing the beauty of Mogok's gems and minerals, including rubies, sapphires, spinels, peridots, topazes, tourmalines, and more.
The film has been made available for free online on Federico’s YouTube channel, offering the general public a chance to see previously unseen footage of Mogok's mines. This educational documentary provides a realistic view of the world of high-quality gems and crystals, making it a landmark achievement in the field of gemology. Eight years of hard work went into creating this film, which uses captivating, never-before-seen footage to capture the magic of Mogok's gems and minerals.
Fabulous EYE CANDY Steve, many thanks for telling us about that film... Love the Mission Impossible music - very appropriate, could you imagine the OH&S anywhere else in the world? Raises so many questions - what is 'heating the stones' about? Does this improve quality? Wonder why each location is restricted to different gems - best Peridot here, best Ruby there (marble/calcite?), best Spinel somewhere else...? Need to see a geological map of Mogok.. why is it so special? how did all these gems come about? Fantastic film, will be watching it a few times.. thanks Steve!
Oh man, thank you for the link! On tap for watching this weekend.
And just look at that bag of pigeon-blood rubies (I assume). Wow, jam 😚😋
