[Edit: Apologies. I thought I had made the map shareable, but apparently I didn’t! It is now!]
Ah. Dundas, Tasmania. The home of crocoite.
You probably have heard of the main crocoite-producing mines, the Adelaide and the Red Lead, and you may have heard of the Dundas Extended, the Platt, and even the Kapi mines. But have a look at the image below. There are so many mines! Granted, only a few produce crocoite, but there are lots of other minerals too.
Many years ago, I downloaded a reasonably high resolution publicly available copy of the geological map of the area (in pdf format). I don’t remember exactly where I got it from, and I have searched but have been unable to locate the source. Its location may have changed anyway.
So, I have uploaded my copy here if you want to access it.
If you want to find out more about the geology (and mines and minerals) of the area, there are a few online resources available. These include:
Bottrill, R.S. and Baker, W.E. 2008. A Catalogue of The Minerals of Tasmania. Tasmanian Geological Survey Bulletin 73.
Elliston, J. 1954. Geology of the Dundas District, Tasmania. Papers and Proceedings of the Royal Society of Tasmania, Volume 88.
Moore, T.P. and Wilson, W.E. 2012. Major Crocoite Discoveries at the Adelaide Mine, Tasmania. The Mineralogical Record, volume 43.
Seymour, D.B., Green, G.R. and Calver, C.R. 2006. The Geology and Mineral Deposits of Tasmania: a summary. Geological Survey Bulletin 72.
Below: A portion of the Dundas 1-25000 Geological Map. Look at all those mines! 😁
Bliss! A decent map. Now all I need is a teleportation device. Bill.
