Michelle Ross has a YouTube Channel, the Goldfields Guide, and manages an informational website that is an excellent resource for both locals and tourists looking to explore the Victorian Goldfields in southeastern Australia.
Michelle interviewed Ken Gillanders who worked at Wattle Gully in the late 1940s and early 1950s as a miner and braceman at Chewton's famous Wattle Gully Mine. In this interview, Ken shares insights into what the mine was like at the time, what it was like working underground, some of the men he worked with, and some very interesting things that happened during his time there. He was the youngest worker underground at the time and, because of this, Ken is one of the very few who are still able to share first-hand accounts of that era at Wattle Gully.
