Where I've Been
Mineral Matters #1088
A couple of days ago, I logged on to Mindat and noticed that I had 10,649 notifications! Previously, I would have received just a few from time to time for any localities that I was following. These notifications informed you of any changes made.
There must have been a new feature introduced recently that caused this massive number.
So I had a look.
Now, for any locality in Mindat, you can opt to receive a Daily Digest, Add to your Favourites, tick “I’ve been here” if you have, well, been there, and in some instances, tick “Priority Watch” (not yet sure how that works - maybe it doesn’t wait for the daily digest). These check boxes are under the “My Locality” option (see second screenshot below). Obviously, you need to be logged in for this.
Aside from receiving notifications about changes to localities, the other main benefit is the “I’ve been here”. Previously, if you wanted to know the places you had been to, you needed to add pins to Google Earth, or something similar. This is a much easier process. The result is a page that you can choose to make public that shows a map with the locations, and a table below with each locality and the number of Mindat photos you have uploaded.
This is a screen shot of my “I’ve been here” page. It is marked as publicly viewable. I have added some, but not all localities. That might take a while, but it is worth doing (for my own benefit).
Try it out! You might like it. 😁
