Today was the first day of the 2023 West Coast Heritage and Minerals Fair at Zeehan, Tasmania (aka the Zeehan Show). It runs for two days.
After an eventful full seven-hour trip up from Hobart (involving a two year old and multiple vomiting episodes!), we arrived in Zeehan a bit after 1pm.
The venue when I last visited was the basketball stadium at the Zeehan Primary School. The show had been held here for many years. But now there are new people running it.
Most of the vendors were in the West Coast Heritage Centre, specifically in the renowned Gaiety Theatre. The Adelaide Mine’s Adam Wright hosted a few sellers across the road too, including Pu Tzu from the USA.
There was a lot of support from local mining companies, and plenty of entertainment for the kids.
The show was well-attended and looked like it was successful. Quite a few of the Australasian Mineral Societies Seminar attendees were there too.
I think I did more catching up than looking at minerals! However there were some interesting things including a selection of gold specimens from the Lefroy district, northeast Tasmania. There were also a few of the new brucites from the Avebury Mine, just down the road from Zeehan. I am sure I missed a lot though.
