In Mineral Matters #734, we had a look at a cerussite with crocoite from the West Comet Mine.
I have some updated information (thanks Shane), that suggests it may have actually come from the Adelaide Mine, not the West Comet.
If you search on Trove for something like “cavity adelaide mine”, it should come up with a story about a large mud filled vugh deep below the current workings, and specifically mentions a specimen from there going to the museum in Adelaide, South Australia.
Trove, a site that is part of the National Library of Australia, allows you to search for digital copies of newspapers, Government Gazettes, maps, magazines, newsletters, books, pictures, photographs, archived websites, music and interviews.
I have not been able to locate the information yet, even after quite a few searches using different search terms, but with some diligent effort, it should be possible.
So here is a challenge for you. If you have the time, see if you can locate the specific article!
The actual specimen possibly now resides in Mark Creasy’s mineral collection in Western Australia. Mark is the patron of the Mineralogical Society of Western Australia, and is a renowned Western Australian prospector and mining entrepreneur, and a dedicated mineral collector.
Search, while enjoying a mug of Epp’s Cocoa, as advertised.
